WalkFog ("we", "our", or "us") operates the WalkFog mobile application (the "App") and this website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the App. The short version: your location is collected only while a walk is active, it is used only to award your map tiles, and you can delete everything at any time from within the App.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you use the App:
- Location data. During an active walk, we collect your device's precise location, location accuracy, and the time of each location update. This is used to validate the tiles you unlock. Exact location updates are sent to our cloud service only while a walk is active, and we keep only one recent exact location update until the walk ends.
- Progress data. The tiles you unlock, your walk dates, and your progress per city, so your map and statistics can be shown to you.
- Account information. WalkFog works without an account. If you choose to save your progress with Sign in with Apple or Google, we store an identifier for that sign-in linked to your existing progress.
- Device and usage data. App version, device type, crash reports, and basic analytics used to keep the App working.
- Purchase information. If you buy a subscription, billing is handled entirely by Apple. We receive only confirmation of your subscription status, never your payment details.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To validate the tiles you unlock during a walk and to record your progress.
- To display your map, history, streaks, and city progress back to you.
- To keep the App reliable, fix crashes, and prevent cheating in leaderboards.
- To provide support when you contact us.
We do not sell your location data. We do not use your location for advertising or cross-app tracking.
3. When Location Is Collected
Location collection starts only after you start a walk in the App. If you grant background location access, collection can continue while your active walk is running and your phone is locked. Ending the walk stops location updates immediately. You can change or revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings, and walks will simply stop unlocking tiles.
4. Data Storage and Security
Data is transmitted and stored over encrypted connections by our cloud service providers. We keep your progress data until you delete it.
5. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. Data is shared only with service providers necessary to operate the App:
- Cloud infrastructure and database providers, to validate tiles and store your progress.
- Map data providers, to draw the map tiles shown in the App.
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple, in-app purchases, and subscription management.
- Google, if you choose Sign in with Google.
- Subscription and paywall services (RevenueCat, Superwall) that check your subscription status.
- Crash reporting and analytics services that help us keep the App working.
6. Your Rights and Choices
- End a walk at any time to stop location collection.
- Change or revoke location access in iOS Settings at any time.
- Use "Delete my data" in the App's Settings to permanently delete your account, unlocked tiles, and walk history.

7. Third-Party Services
Each of these services is governed by its own privacy policy:

8. Children's Privacy
WalkFog is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
9. Subscriptions
WalkFog Premium subscriptions are billed through Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
